The Short Story of the Bird

It was a warm afternoon and we noticed the presence of a black bird near the waste pit of the rig. The bird was silent and motionless as if something was wrong with it. The waste pit was full of waste chemicals; including some 50 barrels of acid, which was dumped in the pit recently. We suspected the poor bird has been exposed to its deadly contents.

I decided to go and bring the bird out of the danger zone.

saving the bird

It was faint and very weak. Still when I got closer, it tried to escape to no avail. I was wearing rubber gloves to protect my hands against acid. The bird was wet from acid and waste chemicals of the pit.

Many people were worried. We tried to at least wash it with water.

Everyone is worried

We washed it with soap and warm water several times afterwards. Also I took the birdy to my room in the camp to keep it in warmer place. It neither drank nor ate anything.

sad sunset

Next day evening the bird died and made all of us sad. We all felt responsible for its death. Indeed we all were responsible. I even think the whole human being is responsbile. It is not the only bird dying due to OUR selfish activities. We human beings hardly see anything farther than our own nose. How long can we continue deliberately damaging our earth and its living contents without true long terms considerations!? Even according to our selfishness -if we were smart enough- we would protect the nature so that we could continue to live happiliy inside it for long centuries. We have to be smarter, at least smart selfishes.

We are far from that!!!

  3. َI guess you accelerated his death with washing him 🙂 don’t worry about the animal. He would kill us if he could just like smaller animals he eats. we kill chickens and lambs to eat and this is the same. We contaminate some places so that we survive and live better life in other places.
